The Rim Fire in the Stanislaus National Forest has now consumed 2,500 acres, according to Forest Service Spokesperson Jerry Snyder.
"The Rim Fire has crossed Highway 120 and is burning up the Pilot Ridge area southeast of Buck Meadows," Snyder adds. "Some structures have been lost. However, officials are working very hard to protect the remaining structures in the area."
Advisory evacuations are in place for the Buck Meadows area in Mariposa County, and in Tuolumne County at the San Jose Family Camp, Rainbow Pool, Yosemite Inn, Early Intake, Packard Canyon and the Spinning Wheel Forest Service Facility.
Spokesperson Scott Johnson of the Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office reports that an evacuation center is open tonight at Tioga High School for Tuolumne County residents. The Red Cross is in the process of setting up the site. Tomorrow the evacuation center is expected to move to the Mother Lode Fairgrounds.
Highway 120 is closed from Ferretti Road to Cherry Lake Road indefinitely. Traffic is not being allowed out of Yosemite National Park via Highway 120.
