There are 3 ways to get stats: infrared, helicopter, (and I missed the third!!)
It has not grown much overnight.
Hash marks on map: line that’s been constructed by bull dozers outside the active fire line.
incident action plan - there are details for every division/group fighting the fire. Very in depth.
They have assigned a structure protection group provided by Office of Emergency Service, covered the the governor’s state of emergency declaration. 12 teams are or will be assigned today. Not there for evacuation assistance. They are there to fight structure fire.
evac info 533-5174 - This line is manned 24/7 and can direct you to the proper agency for your need.
Today (Sunday, 25 August): higher winds - 30 mph on higher peaks; fire control has known this was coming and they have been planning for it.
To protect yourself: listen closely-
stick by land line phone
93.5 or 92.7 radio stations: listen to them
pay attention
SCOTT JOHNSON, Sheriff
30 apparatus staged at east end of TH--will be dispersing throughout the community, where they are needed. They are also driving around communities, getting familiar with the streets and territory.
Bill Pooley - under sheriff
winds-- BE ALERT: limbs will go down; power may go out--call info line (533-5174) immediately
give trucks right of way, drive cautiously
CHIEF CRABTREE: Our community is a community of neighbors. Get acquainted. If someone needs physical assistance, encourage them to evacuate now rather than at last minute. 533-5174 to get # for the agency that can help that person who needs it.
Don’t be cutting dry grass now with lawnmowers etc. Collect pine needles/leave -- with broom or rake. Move wood away from house.
QUESTIONS:
Restricting of traffic on 108? Not restricted to residents or anyone at this time. Lookey-lu crowds (taking photos etc) will be broken up for safetyl
Reverse 911 - comcast phone subscribers will get calls.
Deputy Incident Commander was here yesterday; expressed high confidence. Not here today. Did he lose his confidence????? NO! It’s too early in day for him to be HERE---he’s involved in other briefings at this time of day. Still has high level of confidence. Everything they wanted to accomplish overnight has been accomplished.
Bill POOLEY: Dozer guys have smiles on their faces. Confident. “Bring that fire on.”
Crews are using and taking advantage of local knowledge by seeking out those who have lived here or do live here.
This fire may become a model for nation--keeping locals and fire fighters working together.
Trigger points: plans are well laid out for each area should conditions change.
Trigger point is a management tool. Points will move depending upon fire behavior. Very fluid.
SP RV park - received no reverse 911 calls, not even office. Large space available for apparatus.
Is there a spot for storing boats, jet skis, etc? Not yet.
OES crews are working 24 hr shifts.
Secondary evacuation center is ready if and when necessary. Red Cross will only announce location when necessary.
Where to put fire lines up here in MW area? Crews will look for fire lines from previous fires, i.e. Stanislaus Complex fire of 1987. Much work is done with hand crews rather than dozers.
When you call 911 you will reach someone in Sonora if calling from house phone.
If you need:
CHP - merced will field the call
medical - sonora will field call
cell phone - all calls will go directly to chp in merced.
