RIM FIRE SUSPECT INDICTED

Tuolumne County, CA — A federal indictment alleges that a Columbia resident kindled a fire in the Stanislaus National Forest, and allowed it to spread beyond his control.

At the time of the fire on August 17th, fire restrictions were in place in the Stanislaus National Forest. Keith Emerald, 32, was rescued by helicopter from the Clavey River Canyon, approximately an hour after the fire started.

U.S. Attorney’s Office Spokesperson Lauren Horwood would not comment on why the investigation took nearly a year, other than to say it was “extensive.”

Court documents claim that Emerald initially admitted to causing the fire, but then later denied it.

The affidavit notes that investigators first sat down and interviewed Emerald, at length, on August 23, 2013. The report notes that Emerald initially said he believed a rockslide started the fire.
In a later interview on August 30, investigators spoke with Emerald near the site of the fire’s origin. Emerald said on the day the fire started he had been dressed in camouflage and believed that marijuana growers spotted him, and they may have thought he was law enforcement. Emerald indicated to investigators that he thought marijuana growers could have started the fire.

Court documents show on September 3rd, during an interview, Emerald allegedly admitted to accidentally starting the fire while cooking soup. Winds blew embers uphill, and he was not able to control it. Emerald was concerned about his name getting out in the media. Officials said that it would not be released until a later date, around winter.

In a follow up discussion days later, Emerald allegedly stated he only admitted to starting the fire because of pressure placed on him by investigators.

The ongoing investigation continued over the course of the next year. A search warrant was carried out at his vehicle and residence, and evidence was analyzed. This morning federal officials stated they have probable cause to believe that Emerald was responsible.

He is expected to appear soon in federal court in Fresno.

It is noted that Emerald is innocent until proven guilty.

FLOOD WARNING DUE TO DAM (in Twain Harte)

12.06 P.M. 8/3/14   BJ Hanson

Twain Harte, CA — Due to cracks observed at the Twain Harte Dam, there is a flash flood warning for parts of Tuolumne County.

The National Weather Service reports at 10:45am the operator of the Twain Harte Dam reported seeing cracks, and heard a large boom, signaling a potential dam failure. There is concern that water could come out and go towards Sullivan Creek and portions of Belleview. There is a flash flood warning for those areas.

If in those areas,  you are advised to not cross any water covered bridges, or low water crossings.

The reservoir is just downstream from the community of Twain Harte, which is not expected to be impacted.

Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson Sgt. Scott Johnson reports there are no evacuation advisories in place as a result of the flash flood warning.

IT'S BEEN AWHILE

I'm sorry I haven't posted here for at least a month but..........
1- it's been a wild month and
2- Google, owner of this blogspot blog decided to make some huge changes which included changing all of MY sign in information.  What the heck??????  It has taken me some time to rearrange and reconstruct MY sign in info.

What I was unable to post was information about the Chili Cook Off and Craft Fair which happened at the Mi Wuk Sugar Pine Fire Station yesterday!   I tried!

A new fire apparatus (to us) drove into the parking area around 11 a.m.  It was purchased from the Ashland, Oregon department and will fulfill some gaps in what our station has been able to do.  It also has a smaller turning space and can go up some streets that our current engines/apparatus can not.  It was purchased at a great price and one of the current older model engines has been retired.

Inside the apparatus bays, 6 cooks worked on their own chili concoctions.  When I get the official information I'll let you know the winners' names.  In the meantime, here's my sweetie's station:

And out in the parking area were the craft booths.  I only have a photo of mine so that's what I'll share.  It was 94 degrees in Sugar Pine which might explain my lack of other photos.  If you don't know it, I have taught rubber stamp art for the past 18 years as a demonstrator for Stampin' Up!, a now international manufacturer of many things rubber and related.

My decision for yesterday's booth was to show the variety of things that can be created with artistic rubber stamps and related supplies.  The variety is from A-Z, finished hand-stamped cards to Project Life Memory Keeping to 3-D decorative items.  And much much more.  You can find out more about how I spend my 'spare time' here.

Coming in September:  a new blog location and much shorter url/blog address.  Stay tuned.  I'll be able to have links to local establishments in the sidebar and more.  I'm excited!
