HIGHWAY 108 'PHASE 2' BY-PASS CHANGES

Have you driven up to Mi Wuk and surrounding communities in the past week or so on Highway 108?  Or have you left the Mi Wuk area on Highway 108?  (No other choice is there?!)  Progress does come at a price, literally and figuratively.

I sure got an eye-opener on Monday afternoon, heading 'down the hill' towards Dublin:  couldn't turn right on Peaceful Oaks Rd. and had to go down to Hess, s-l-o-w-l-y, to get onto the bypass and start my journey.

Coming home late yesterday afternoon, Tuesday, I saw why!  Mind you, I was driving and just held my iPhone up and snapped.  The sun was low in the sky, around 7.30 p.m.

Along side Hess Avenue on ramp

Below:  just before the curve, heading toward the RED light at Peaceful Oaks Rd. ---downhill land has been dug up.  Lots of work going on to the left of the lane.  Getting ready for ........ ???  There is no longer a usually GREEN right arrow at the turn.

Below:  Big equipment on the job

Below: Pavement dug down 3-5 inches.  Hard to see dimension while driving.  :)

Below: Farther up 108, after new overpass, before Via Este; getting ready for transition access onto 108 from new bypass ??

Below:  Heavy equipment at the ready

Below:  LOTS of cones.  Must have raided a cone factory!  :)  (Sorry, my humor.)

Below:  Approaching Via Este where coning ends, or begins, depending upon which direction you're going.

That's it for now.  I'll have to check the newspaper to read what is written about this phase.  If you have information, please share!  And be sure to add a bit of travel time to your arrival or departure.

By the way.........the weather is beautiful!

PHOTO ALONG MIDDLE CAMP ROAD

What a lovely scene, taken by Mi Wuk neighbor Christy the other day:

This is why we live, full or part time, or vacation in this area of the Sierra.  Beautiful.  Wonder what he's thinking.

FIRE BOARD MEETING

Our Mi Wuk Sugar Pine Fire Department is a very important asset to our community.  A huge way to know what's going on within the department is to attend a Fire Board Meeting

Meetings are on the 2nd Tuesday of every month, 7:00 p.m.

This coming Tuesday's meeting,  June 11th, is a special meeting because it will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Please consider coming.  Get informed and speak up if you have a concern.

Don't speculate---participate!  We do have a great department and a marvelous facility that has been built by your community members (brawn) and the Fire Auxiliary (bucks).  Please support the Department and the Auxiliary.  There are brochures at the station on Hwy 108.

No!  No snow right now!  It's the only photo I have in my file.

I'M BACK!

Hello Mi Wuk area homeowners.

I'm back on duty once again.  My husband and I have been taking care of his son, who was suffering from ALS, for the past two years, intensely for all of 2012 until March 2013, when Jeff passed away.  Since that time we've been adjusting to actually being HOME, together.  It's amazing to me how long it has taken to acclimate to what was once a normal life here in Mi Wuk.  I got to plant flowers for the first time in two years.  Wow!

We've also had a Blue Jay nest, for the second year running, in exactly the same spot on our back deck, since late March, early April.  The result was 4 bouncing babies who fledged last Sunday.  Hopefully they have survived.  It's impossible to tell.

Do you know our Mi Wuk / Sugar Pine Fire Department is in search of a new chief?  A search committee has been formed.  More news as I know it.  Fire Board Meetings, open to the public (please come), are on the second Tuesday of every month, 7 p.m.  Please come and become informed.

The Fire Auxiliary meets at noon on the second Wednesday of each month.  This month's meeting is on June 12th, NOON.  Lunch is first at noon-sharp, $5.00, followed by the meeting.  Please introduce yourself to anyone who is there if you've never attended before, and they'll be sure you're introduced and made to feel at home.  I won't be there this month---appointments in the Bay Area.

The MAHA Board (Mi Wuk Area Homeowners Assn.) meets tomorrow, June 7th, first Friday of the month, at the Mi Wuk Community Center and Library at 1:00 p.m.

I'm not sure about other events, but I teach a Stamping for Adults class at the Mi Wuk Library on the third Thursday of every month, 1-3 p.m., $3.00.  We've been meeting since February 2004 and we make two greeting cards, all materials plus envelopes, provided.  It's a walk-in class and is lots of fun. No reservation required.  We do start promptly at 1:00.   Come on out and meet your neighbors.  No pressure.  No skill.  With step-by-step guidance, almost anyone can do it.

Other upcoming events:

Fire Auxiliary Pancake Breakfast, July 6th.  Details coming.

Fire Auxiliary Spaghetti Dinner, August ??  I can't find my notes!  It's Labor Day Weekend.  :)

Mi Wuk Village Chief Fuller Day, August 31st, 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.   Please contact MiWukKettleCorn@hotmail.com for details about participating as a vendor.  There will be good food, crafts and arts. Come on out and support your community!!!  Proceeds will go to the Mi Wuk Village Beautification Project---working on the "Triangle", as you enter Mi Wuk from Sonora on Hwy 108, at this point.  Location:  Diamond Jim's parking lot as well as the areas next to the General Store and the Laundromat.

More news on the previous events at I have it.

It's wonderful to be back and sharing community information with you again.  If you have anything to announce or concerns, please let me know at 'blythek@mac.com' and I'll see that it gets posted.

Take care and have a safe beginning to summer in the mountains.
