GET YOUR MWSPFPD RIM FIRE TEE SHIRT **HERE** !

The Rim Fire tee-shirts presented by our Mi Wuk Sugar Pine Fire Protection District Auxiliary have arrived and are now available for purchase.

I strongly feel (editorial comment perhaps) that our department, led by Chief Larry Crabtree, was instrumental in keeping our community so well informed during the fire.  They orchestrated daily briefings at the Word of Life Church (which could handle the crowds of 200-500 who came for information) for the community as well as offered hospitality to any law enforcement or fire fighting strike team coming by, day or night.  After five or so years of volunteer labor, we now have the perfect facility for offering a quiet space, coffee, bathrooms and food from the community as well as large tables with the latest maps and updates.  The Mi Wuk Sugar Pine Fire Protection District Station was "information central" on the hill.

You can purchase your shirt at the Mi Wuk Sugar Pine Fire Station on Hwy 108 Monday-Friday, 9:00-4:00 p.m.  OR, especially if you are non-full time residents and won't be up here for awhile, send an email to me, blythek@mac.com, and I will pull the requested sized shirts from stock to secure them and then mail them after receiving your payment (check please, payable to MWSPFPDA).  Postage will be added to your purchase and I'll send it/them as reasonably as possible.  Tax is included in the price of the shirt.

You can also call me, 209-586-1962, or Linda Clark, 209-770-6231 (m), if you'll be coming up on the weekend.  If we're available, we'll help you.

Shirts are available in the following sizes:

Regular short sleeved tee, $20.00:
  • Small
  • Medium
  • Large
  • Extra Large
Regular short sleeved tee, $24.00:
  • 2XL
  • 3XL
Short sleeved tee with pocket: $30.00
  • Large*  (9 available)
  • Extra Large* (20 available)
Short sleeved tee with pocket: $32.00
  • 2XL*  (5 available)
Long sleeved tee: $30.00
  • Large*  (9 available)
  • Extra Large*  (12 available)

Long sleeved tee: $33.00
  • 2XL*  (4 available)
*These particular shirts run a little snug.  I would suggest going up one size from what you would usually purchase.  My husband normally would wear an XL---he's needing a 2XL!

While we have 300 shirts available, they will be going fast, so if you want one or more, please come by the station or send me an email soon.  I will go to the station every day to pull out the sizes you request.

I don't recall if I told you before, but the photo, out behind the Long Barn area, was taken by a Rim Fire Fighter from an Oakland strike team.  Thanks Mike!!!

Please support our Auxiliary (we are a 501(c)3 organization) so we can support our department's needs as they arise.

FINALLY--THE RIM FIRE IS FULLY CONTAINED

Tuolumne County, CA -- The Rim Fire is now fully contained over two months after it was ignited, but Forest Service officials say it will take a good rain to completely put it out.

The total of 257,314 acres was scorched. There are still 42 firefighters on the scene. At the height of the fire that number was more than five thousand.

"They will continue to mop up," says Forest Service Spokesperson Jerry Snyder. "The interior of the fire is still smoldering. We expect that there are going to be pockets of burning material. Until we get some good rain we don't see anything in the near future that is going to provide enough moisture to put out the fire."

The total cost to fight the fire has topped $127 million dollars. There were eleven homes, three commercial properties and 98 outbuilding destroyed in the flames. A total of 10 firefighters were injured in the blaze. The Rim Fire was started on August 17th by a hunter's illegal camp fire.

Fire Update
The Rim fire is now being managed by the Groveland and Mi-Wok Ranger Districts on the Stanislaus National Forest. Minimal fire spread is expected over the next week. There is one 800-1000 acre pocket of vegetation near Kibbie Lake that remains with a potential to burn. Resources will continue to patrol and mop-up while continuing to implement the suppression repair plan. Commercial recreation along the Tuolumne and Clavey Rivers continues to be impacted. The developed areas of Hetch-Hetchy remain evacuated.
Park and Forest Closures:
Evergreen Road is open only to Evergreen Lodge. Hetch Hetchy and surrounding facilities in Yosemite Park remain closed to public access due to hazardous trees. Aspen Valley is open to residents only. Tuolumne Grove and Hodgdon Meadow Campground remain closed. The Stanislaus National Forest issued an updated Rim Fire Area Closure (dated September 12 2013) for the Groveland and Mi-Wok Ranger Districts. Cherry Lake Road is closed at Hwy 120. Old Yosemite and Harden Flat Roads are closed. Some secondary roads within the fire area remain closed to non-residents. Merced Grove and Tamarack Flat are open.

Here's a map view we haven't seen before yesterday:

BRICKS! AVAILABLE FOR ORDERING!

Several years ago, 2007 to be exact, the Mi Wuk Sugar Pine Fire Protection District Auxiliary (MWSPFPDA) started a fund raiser for the department that has been nicknamed BRICKS.  That's because we were and ARE selling 8" x 8" and 4" x 8" personalized bricks.

Early orders of bricks have been attached to two walls of the Fire Department Building.

 Brick wall facing Apparatus Bays

Brick wall facing Hwy 108, right end of building

Final prep of wall at left end of building, facing Hwy 108

The worker-bees, Russ and Blythe Klipple.
(someone came by [thank you Sharon] who could take our photo)

Intern Randy Shawda got roped into helping us, cleaning off bricks with a damp rag to remove lime staining.

All the bricks that we had in-house are now on the building.  Next...........more orders for more bricks!

By the way, when all brick are installed, the areas above and below the personalized bricks will be filled in with 'stone' that you can still see above and below some of the bricked areas.

Now I can come back to YOU, the public, homeowners, part time and full time residents:  There is space available on this last wall for about 50 more bricks.  I'll start calling these *limited edition* bricks because there is a finite amount of space left for placing them.

8" x 8" bricks are $100:  6 lines of text, 20 characters per line.
4" x 8" bricks are $50: 3 lines of text, 20 characters per line.
Leave one space between each word.  Any other information you should need will be on the ordering form.

You can pick up order forms at the fire station most any time of day or by requesting me to mail you one:  blythek@mac.com

Personalized bricks make great gifts, memorials and are a wonderful way to recognize accomplishments.  The Klipples have two bricks up there:  one for our children and grandchildren and one for the exchange students and European friends we've entertained at our cabin/home in Mi Wuk Village  over the years.  We're contemplating a third one.

As soon as we get 50 bricks ordered, I will be placing our order.  Be the first on "your block" to order your "limited edition" brick.  :)  Support our fabulous Fire Protection District that orchestrated so much community service/information during the Rim Fire as well as opened their doors to all visiting Fire Fighters.  As an Auxiliary member (men and women can join you know!) I am so proud of my department.

Mi Wuk Sugar Pine FPD RIM FIRE TEE SHIRTS

I think I mentioned a few weeks ago that Rim Fire Fighter, Mike Scott from Oakland FD shared some fabulous photos taken in the areas behind Long Barn, with my husband, Russ, and me.

The MiWuk/SugarPine Fire Auxiliary is going to be selling tee shirts using one of Mike's photos, as a fund raiser for our department and as a 'tip of the hat' for all that Chief Crabtree and the department did during the height of the Fire.

Tee shirts will be available in sizes S to XL, 2X and 3X, primarily short sleeved with a few long sleeved shirts being ordered and some short sleeved shirts with a front pocket.  We will be ordering a variety of sizes.  The basic tee shirt color is a dark-ish Heather Gray.

I will have a full photo ready for posting on Thursday, along with pricing.  We're waiting for final approval from the Auxiliary as a whole before that information is announced.   Tees will be in the $20-$25 dollar range; extra $2-$4.50 for pockets, long sleeves and 2X and 3X sizes.

I'm really excited about this and can't wait to sport my new tee shirt.  They are awesome, respectful and an honor to those who risked their lives for US.

Here's a small screen shot hint of the back of the tee shirt.  The MWSPFPD  logo will be on the front.

Feel free to let me know of your interest in the next day or two so I can use that information towards our initial order count.  This isn't an order!  Just an idea of community interest.  Tee shirts will be available through the blog (additional $ for postage) or at the Mi Wuk Sugar Pine Hwy 108 Station.

What do you think???
