I'M BACK!

Hello Mi Wuk area homeowners.

I'm back on duty once again.  My husband and I have been taking care of his son, who was suffering from ALS, for the past two years, intensely for all of 2012 until March 2013, when Jeff passed away.  Since that time we've been adjusting to actually being HOME, together.  It's amazing to me how long it has taken to acclimate to what was once a normal life here in Mi Wuk.  I got to plant flowers for the first time in two years.  Wow!

We've also had a Blue Jay nest, for the second year running, in exactly the same spot on our back deck, since late March, early April.  The result was 4 bouncing babies who fledged last Sunday.  Hopefully they have survived.  It's impossible to tell.

Do you know our Mi Wuk / Sugar Pine Fire Department is in search of a new chief?  A search committee has been formed.  More news as I know it.  Fire Board Meetings, open to the public (please come), are on the second Tuesday of every month, 7 p.m.  Please come and become informed.

The Fire Auxiliary meets at noon on the second Wednesday of each month.  This month's meeting is on June 12th, NOON.  Lunch is first at noon-sharp, $5.00, followed by the meeting.  Please introduce yourself to anyone who is there if you've never attended before, and they'll be sure you're introduced and made to feel at home.  I won't be there this month---appointments in the Bay Area.

The MAHA Board (Mi Wuk Area Homeowners Assn.) meets tomorrow, June 7th, first Friday of the month, at the Mi Wuk Community Center and Library at 1:00 p.m.

I'm not sure about other events, but I teach a Stamping for Adults class at the Mi Wuk Library on the third Thursday of every month, 1-3 p.m., $3.00.  We've been meeting since February 2004 and we make two greeting cards, all materials plus envelopes, provided.  It's a walk-in class and is lots of fun. No reservation required.  We do start promptly at 1:00.   Come on out and meet your neighbors.  No pressure.  No skill.  With step-by-step guidance, almost anyone can do it.

Other upcoming events:

Fire Auxiliary Pancake Breakfast, July 6th.  Details coming.

Fire Auxiliary Spaghetti Dinner, August ??  I can't find my notes!  It's Labor Day Weekend.  :)

Mi Wuk Village Chief Fuller Day, August 31st, 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.   Please contact MiWukKettleCorn@hotmail.com for details about participating as a vendor.  There will be good food, crafts and arts. Come on out and support your community!!!  Proceeds will go to the Mi Wuk Village Beautification Project---working on the "Triangle", as you enter Mi Wuk from Sonora on Hwy 108, at this point.  Location:  Diamond Jim's parking lot as well as the areas next to the General Store and the Laundromat.

More news on the previous events at I have it.

It's wonderful to be back and sharing community information with you again.  If you have anything to announce or concerns, please let me know at 'blythek@mac.com' and I'll see that it gets posted.

Take care and have a safe beginning to summer in the mountains.

WHAT HAPPENING IN THE HIGH COUNTRY?

It's always nice to get some information for the blog.  Thank you Arlen Richardson, former MAHA President, spouse of our Post Master, Cathy, and sort of honorary man-about-town.  If it's happening, Arlen probably knows about it.

** The Pine Cone Restaurant has closed due to a small electrical fire.  Building owner (not Pine Cone operators) not willing to make repairs.  The Pine Cone has been an strong supporter with our annual Spaghetti Fund Raiser Dinners at the 108 Fire Station by helping the committee with food purchases and will be sorely missed.
  • Unsubstantiated:  the building has been sold.
  • Unsubstantiated:  it is not known if the space will reopen as a restaurant.
** RUMOR has it that a BBQ place will open in the old donut shop in Sierra Village.

** RUMOR also that a Mexican Restaurant may open at the site of the old Courtyard Restaurant in Sierra Village.

As with a lot of buildings in the county, the county 'powers' may cause a delay in any plans.

** The Mi Wuk  Water Company reported at least 10 frozen pipe leaks in homes from the cold spell back around New Years.  Seems as if an article about pipe preparation would be in order right here on the blog.

** We've had temps in the mid forties for lows and mid fifties for highs this past week---a nice false spring.   Things are due to change on Thursday with some rain and the snow level down lower but not a lot.  Be prepared.

NOTE THESE DATES:

FEBRUARY 14th:   There will be a Sweets & Treats gathering at the community center on Valentine's Day from 1pm to 4pm.   Bring a savory or a sweet.  It's a good chance to meet folks and check out the library if you haven't been there recently.

FEBRUARY 20th:  "Oh, Hello" stamping class at Blythe Klipple's Country Loft:  projects using the Oh, Hello stamp set from Stampin' Up!'s 2013 Occasions Catalog.
   Time: 1-4 p.m.
   Fee: $25
RSVP: No later than February 15th.  blythek@mac.com or 209-352-1059
No experience necessary.  Bring a friend but please, be sure to RSVP so I have product prepared.

FEBRUARY 21st:  Stamping for Adults at the Library in Mi Wuk Village, near the Post Office and Ranger Station

   Time: 1-3 p.m.
   Fee: $3
This is a 'drop in' class--no reservation or experience required.  Just come in and join us! It's fun and we're very friendly.  And we'd love to see YOU!  Men and women!  All supplies provided---with a smile!

If YOU have an event or know of community events, please let me know and I'll gladly post them on our blog.  By no means do I know all of what's going on in the area.

WEEKEND WEATHER

Our weekend weather looks mostly like ............... RAIN.  Slight chance of snow as far down as Mi Wuk and Twain Harte.

Click on the photo for a larger image--one you can read!

There's a second storm coming along that hints of that snow on Sunday into Monday.  And before that it's just that slight chance of rain.

I don't know about you but the pollen in the pines is making me miserable and I'd like a nice serious rain to bring it down to the ground and mash it!!!

Any interesting community photos?  As you can tell, no news is pretty much no news.  It's pretty quiet around here.

Have a great weekend............

MORE HOLIDAY PHOTOS

I totally forgot that I had some neat photos from between Christmas & New Year's:

Boxing Day, 26 December 2012, Highway 108, before the Fire Station

Sanctuary (our home on Lama-Hisum) looking SE.

Oma & Nora, surviving the run down the hill.

Oma (that's me) and granddaughter Nora, on the FAST saucer, crashing into the finish line!

The boys making their way down the run.  This is just over the forest boundary, near the 3 water tanks behind Lama-Hisum.

Now I'm looking forward to more of your pictures.  :)

NEW YEAR'S EVE on PALAPETE

Thanks so much Paul & Patty, on Palepete, for your New Year's Eve photo.  I LOVE pictures with our American flag proudly waving!  :)

Let's keep 'em coming.  I'd love to have a 'gallery' of Mi Wuk area photos to start this new year.

WEATHER - JANUARY 6th

Yes, we have some weather.  Christmas snow is yet to melt because it's been so cold.  Roads are still icy, especially at night.  The snow removal personnel were furloughed when the snow came Christmas Day so we had only a cursory removal of snow on the village roads.  Hmmmmm.

The source for our exact latitude:

I'm always looking for photos of what it looks like in your part of Mi Wuk or nearby so please feel free to send them to me and I'll post them here as soon as I can.

Be safe.
